Question Chemistry tech, norfolk

3 years 2 months ago #40255 by AndyG
Our chem tech will be retiring from the end of this term so this is a heads up for a post which I'm promised should appear soon ... Currently term time + 6, NJC scale 4 and I don't believe that will change.

One issue is that you'll need to work with a crotchety senior technician ...

More details as and when.

£17,720 per annum (FTE £17,772 per annum)

Note that the FTE looks too big but includes 15 minutes paid overtime per day (term time only)
3 years 1 month ago #40330 by bsimmo
I don't get that, if it includes 15mins per day, then it's classed as normal working hours (so you would see it in and holidays and benefits etc). i.e. it is not overtime.

This is the land of HR ... is should be declared as paid overtime and isn't. :bang
3 years 1 month ago #40332 by bsimmo
declared or not it *has* to be included in holiday pay etc.
3 years 1 month ago #40333 by AndyG
Just because I know something is wrong doesn't mean I have any power to correct it or explain why it hasn't been corrected by those who do ...

More a warning for anyone interested in the job to go through the contract and check stuff and check you're getting payed for your work and holidays etc :-)

It's a two way thing.

Did you have any say in the matter?
3 years 2 weeks ago #40413 by AndyG
Yes. I insisted that I gave the candidates a tour of Science as "they" hadn't planned one, I ensured that the techs could all have a chat with them and I insisted I should be on the interview panel. As it was, one was a stand-out candidate and we all agreed without hesitation.
Good qualifications, industrial lab experience, educational tech expeience and what appears to be a rockin' sense of humour! :-)

Been involved three times with new techs, first candidate talked the talk but not the work.
Second one was appointed by the HOD and lasted three weeks - she liked putting the kettle on - the last one was appointed while I was away with yr7 camp. Came back to a done deal....

This is our first change of tech in ten years (only due to early retirement) ... hopefully it'll be a change for the best.
