Anybody's schools doing anything in honour of #Techognition week? Or is it just another week and business as usual like it is here where it goes unnoticed and unmentioned?

Was nice to see them celebrate the classroom assistants on their special day with a tea/coffee/pastries in the staffroom though....

This is the problem of being a "backroom boy". We need more visibility! Fluorescent lab coats, funny hats.....

Techognition?? - Another week, another dollar. Nobody gives a flying monkeys. However, happy to read what everybody else is doing to see if I'm missing out on anything really important

Does anybody agree (or disagree) with my assessment of TECHONITION on the front page article?
Its my own personal views. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this job. 27 years here and probably becoming cynical. However, if you have opinions let me know; Here is the articles link

One of the best things I did was to take off the "White Coat of Invisibility". It was decreed that all the kids had to move from polo shirts and sweatshirts into "Proper school uniform" so , in solidarity, I did the same and started wearing a shirt and tie.

Within a week staff and students started to notice that I existed, a few asked why the change?? And I replied "Hey, you've suddenly noticed that I am here !".

If I did need to wear the white coat & safety specs it then meant that I was probably doing something dangerous and needed them, so "JUST GO AWAY".

Best way to be noticed is simply to leave.

Staff: "Why isn't this being done?"

Answer: "Well, PRB always does that."

Staff: "Hey this hasn't been done"

Answer: "PRB always did that".

Staff: "Who fixes the &*&%&^^$$%£"

Answer: "PRB, but he got so p1gged off with the job he left"

Yes you were noticed but did anyone say "I see that 'prep room boy' has got a shirt and tie on, lets give him a pay rise!

I did I suggested we do something for National Science Week (the school recognises English and Maths weeks) - that sailed by deaf ears as well....

I agree entirely, it will take time, as most of the people we have to convince don't know we exist, but at least we're starting from a blank slate - no misconceptions.
Pity about the name though, doesn't exactly roll of the tongue.

As you know ive been retired for 10 years now but even after 42 years i didnt get cynical just tired and worn out i miss the interaction with the students and some of the staff but for a change im doing part time theology courses as the desire to learn is still strong

It is best to remember that when you are up to your waist in Alligators that your original intention was to drain the swamp!
